Join our next in-person workshop when we will introduce and practice the ancient techniques of Indian wood-block printing and the sashiko running stitch.
Indian block printing is a centuries-old, meticulous tradition primarily practiced in Rajasthan and Gujarat, involving hand-carved wooden blocks (often Teak or Sheesham) to stamp intricate designs on textiles using natural or eco-friendly dyes.
The sashiko running stitch is a foundational hand-sewing technique consisting of a straight line of evenly spaced, small stitches created by weaving the needle in and out of fabric. It is used for permanent seams, gathering fabric, basting, and decorative embroidery. It is versatile, fast, and often the first stitch learned.
We will provide all materials needed and attendants get to keep the organic cotton teeshirt they work on.
Children ages 7 to 12 are welcome with their families.
This workshop is free and open, please RSVP by email to <thehandsonproject.org@gmail.com>
